How to Use

To ensure the safe use of Gemifloxacin, let your doctor know if you have a history or suffer from any of these conditions:

• Nerve or muscle disorder
• Slow heartbeats or any heart rhythm disorder
• Family or personal history of QT syndrome
• Epilepsy or seizures
• Kidney or liver disease
• History of allergic reactions to antibiotics
• Diabetes
• Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood
• If you use any blood thinner
• Arthritis, tendon problems, or any other joint problem (particularly in kids)

Take Gemifloxacin with a prescription. Refrain from taking a smaller or larger dose than recommended. For the best results, you should try to take the dose at the same time each day. This will help avoid missing doses and also eliminate the risk of overdosing.

The typical dose size per day for pneumonia and bronchitis in adults is 320mg.

The Gemifloxacin tablets should be taken with a full glass of water. You should also take several other glasses of water and other fluids during the day when using Gemifloxacin.

The dose can be taken with or without food. However, you should not take the drug with dairy products (yogurt, milk or calcium-fortified juice). All in all, you can take dairy products as part of your regular meal but never use them at the same time with gemifloxacin. Combining dairy products with this medicine may cause the medicine to be less effective.

You should take Gemifloxacin for the full length of the prescription. The symptoms may improve or even clear completely before the prescribed dose is complete. Don’t skip doses as this will increase the risk of serious infections. Gemifloxacin will not treat such viral infections as flu or common cold.

FDA Pregnancy Classification

Category C

It is unknown if Gemifloxacin can cause harm to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant during treatment. It is also not known if the drug can pass into the breast milk and harm a breastfeeding baby. Your doctor should be told if you are nursing a baby.

Storage

Store at room temperature and away from light, heat and moisture.

Serious

• Signs of tendon rupture: sudden swelling, pain or bruising or popping sound in the joints
• Nerve symptoms: tingling, numbness, hyper sensitivity to temperature, touch or sense of body position
• Headache with chest pain, pounding heartbeat, fainting or severe dizziness
• Muscle weakness or labored breathing
• Bloody or watery diarrhea
• Depression, hallucinations, tremors, anxious, insomnia, suicidal thoughts or nightmares
• Seizures
• Increased pressure in the skull

Common

• Mild headache
• Mild dizziness
• Mild stomach pain
• Mild diarrhea
• Nausea or vomiting

Safety

Patients with muscle disorders are not advised to take Gemifloxacin. You should let your doctor know if you suffer from myasthenia gravis.

Gemifloxacin can cause tearing or swelling of tendons especially on the heel. This condition is more common in patients over the age of 60, those taking steroid medication and those who have had a lung, heart or kidney transplant.

Contact your doctor immediately and stop using the medicine if you experience sudden pain, bruising, swelling, stiffness, or movement problems in the joints. Rest the joint until you get medical instructions from your doctor.
